Custom Fireplace Mantels in Marlborough, MA

A Mantel Built for the Room It's In

The fireplace is where the eye lands in a living room — and the mantel is the frame around it. Stock mantels come in a handful of standard sizes, and they rarely fit the fireplace or suit the room. WM Painting & More provides custom fireplace mantels: designed and built by our carpentry team to fit your fireplace and your room, then finished with a painted finish that ties it into the rest of the trim.

What We Build

Simple painted mantels. A clean surround and shelf with straightforward lines — the right call when the room is simple and the fireplace just needs a finished frame.

Full surrounds with trim detail. Layered trim, columns, and a deeper profile for rooms that can carry it — the kind of mantel that becomes the thing people notice first.

Mantel shelves and surround replacements. When the existing mantel is dated, damaged, or was never more than a plain shelf, we build a replacement that fits the fireplace properly.

Every mantel is measured and built to the fireplace it will sit on — the width of the firebox, the depth of the hearth, the height of the ceiling — because proportion is most of what makes a mantel look right.

How a Mantel Project Runs

It starts with a free estimate visit. We measure the fireplace, look at the room's existing trim so the new mantel matches its character, and talk through the style you're after — simple and clean, or a full surround with detail.

Then our carpentry team builds it to those measurements and fits it to the actual fireplace, working around the brick, stone, or tile that's already there. Mantels are part of the wider carpentry work WM Painting & More provides — you can see more of it on our carpentry page: https://wmpaintingandmore.com/carpentry.

Then the finish: caulked where the mantel meets the wall, and a smooth painted finish that matches or complements the room's trim, with the shelf level and ready for the things that live on a mantel.

Why Custom Fits Better

Fireplaces are rarely perfectly square, and older ones are never standard size. A stock mantel on an uneven brick face leaves gaps that no amount of caulk makes right, and a mantel that's too small or too grand for the room looks off every day you live with it. A mantel built for the fireplace fits the wall it's on, sits at the right height and depth, and is solid in a way hollow kit mantels aren't. It's a small piece of furniture your house wears permanently — it's worth having it built for the house.

Where We Work
